The tool looks up for references in the registry and those files those are associated with windows installer. The primary job of this utility is to remove this installer which was installed by various programs. This utility software works well in higher bit versions of MS windows. Windows Installer is otherwise known as Microsoft Installer. It is normally referred as an engine which can be used for installing software, maintaining software and also removing the unwanted software. The information necessary to install the software is given in Installation package. Though this facility was not available in earlier versions of Windows, Microsoft began to introduce it in some of its recent upgraded versions of operating systems. Initially Microsoft came with a Setup API before the release of Windows Installer. But the latter is more advanced as it provides many distinct features. It includes a Graphical User Interface framework. Also the sequence in which uninstall operation is done is automatically generated. Windows Installer CleanUp Utility was introduced by Microsoft Software Corporation in early 2004. A user of windows operating system may find it difficult to remove a program which was installed earlier. He may follow the usual procedure of going to control panel and selecting the option of add/remove programs to remove the program he currently does not need. But few of these programs refuse to remove themselves even when this operation is carried out. So this CleanUp software was introduced to perform exactly the same operation. The primary purpose of the utility is to safely remove the settings of windows Installer if in case our system encounters any problem. Windows Installer by itself may be damaged by any or all of the following reasons: •Your computer registry getting corrupted This CleanUp utility will remove all information of the Installer related to the particular program. If we remove the settings of a selected program, we can no longer be able to modify the components of that program or repair it in times of needs. So it is always recommended that we re- install the program again, before we start using them. The disadvantages and a limiting feature associated with this CleanUp utility is that, it can only modify only the files and registry values related to Installer portion of the program. It cannot wipe out many files from our system. So it can only be used as a one last attempt to deal with programs that causes troubles. The user has to log in as a System Administrator to run this CleanUp Utility software. System administrators or sysadmins (as they are usually referred) should possess the technical skills in handling the various programs of the computer. He should have the wide knowledge about the Operating System currently used in the computer. He must have a thorough knowledge of various troubleshooting techniques available in both hardware and software. In short, they must have the problem solving capability. However, this utility can be best suited to remove only the Installer information leaving behind the installation intact.
When installing the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, two executable files (with the extension.exe) and a text file (with the extension .txt) are copied to the relevant folder. This text file is normally a readme file while the executable files are msicuu and msizap.
